The Law of the Jante updated

    In 2001 a right wing turnabout under the influence of Dansk Folkeparti  gathered pace in Denmark and Fazakerley began a series updating Janteloven or The Law of the Jante in eleven large tusch drawings. He sent them to Silkeborg Kunstmuseum,  so they could “disappear in their  archive”.  Dorte Kirkeby Andersen, the director of the museum, bought the series with the help of funding from Kulturarvsstyrelsen. The series was exhibited in Silkeborg Kunstmuseum in 2005.

    Janteloven or The Law of the Jante as a concept was created by the Danish/Norwegian author Aksel Sandemose. It is the idea that there is a pattern of group behavior towards individuals within Scandinavian communities that negatively portrays and criticises individual success and achievement as unworthy and inappropriate.
